After running afoul of the censors at Tik Tok and Instagram, the city of Vienna has opened an Only Fans account to post explicit art works that the other platforms have rejected. The tourism board plans to post art works from four of Vienna's most revered museums on the adults-only platform.
In July of this year, the Albertina Museum had their TikTok account suspended, then blocked, for displaying photographic works by Nobuyoshi Araki. In 2019, Instagram and Facebook both flagged a painting by Peter Paul Rubens as violating its community guidelines.
"Vienna and its art institutions are among the casualties of this new wave of prudishness," the tourism board said in a released statement announcing the decision to place "the capital's world-famous 'explicit' artworks on OnlyFans."
Subscribers to the account will receive either a Vienna city card or a ticket to any of the featured museums where the city's tourism board has said "uncensored works of art in question can be seen in the flesh."
"And the battle against censorship still rages on: with the rise of social media, bans like these are back in headlines once again. Major social media channels like Instagram and Facebook have nudity and 'lewd' content firmly in their sights."
