Marcel Broodthaers
Mon livre d'ogre
Ostende, Belgium: L'Enseigne de l'Arquebuse du Silence, 1957
44 pp., 20.3 x 15.5 cm., softcover
Edition of 175 signed and numbered copies
Marcel Broodthaer’s first four bookworks were volumes of poetry. The first, Mon livre d'ogre or My Ogre Book was a collection of poetical narratives published in 1957. Produced in an edition of 175, the layout, size, typeface and paper choice were all highly considered. Three copies were produced on China paper and were not available for sale, five copies were produced on Japon paper and marked A to E. Twenty-five numbered copies were produced on Auvergne, and another one hundred and fifty on vellum. Each copy featured a line block frontispiece by Serge Vandercam, which was included as a colour lithograph with the first thirty-three copies.
The title makes up one third of the recent Siglio Press release.
