Robert Delford Brown's New York Times obituary in April 2009 referred to him as "the high priest of Happenings” and "founder of his own religion, The First National Church of the Exquisite Panic”. The church is listed as the publisher of the book of xeroxed polaroid photographs taken by Brown of his contemporaries: Larry Bell, Joseph Cornell, Sue Davis, Suzy Gablik, Allan & Vaughan Kaprow, Colin Naylor, Claes Oldenburg, Lucas Samaras, Carolee Schneemannn,  H.C. Westermann, and many others.

“Robert Delford Brown delves into this mass photographic subconscious, somehow managing to reinforce, warp, and undermine our primary assumptions regarding photography all at one and the same time.”
- A.D.Coleman, introduction
