I have a soft spot for pop songs whose content and form co-mingle and equate the obsession of early love with the ear worm of a pop hook. It reminds me of Paul Morley's 2003 book Words and Music: A History of Pop in the Shape of a City. Ultimately a bit of a disappointment, I was excited to read a title that aimed to tell the history of popular music through the lens of Alvin Lucier's "I am sitting in a room" and Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head."
