Released in late February of this year, this title documents the first decade of programming of the FLAG Art Foundation, founded by financier, philanthropist and collector Glenn Fuhrman. FLAG's mandate is to promote the appreciation of contemporary art among a diverse audience, often by hiring non-artworld professionals to curate exhibitions. To date, more than 50 exhibitions have been mounted, with works by more than 500 artists presented. The curators have ranged from artists to athletes, writers to historians, fashion designers to museum directors, etc. etc.

The FLAG Art Foundation 2008–2018 is a fully illustrated account of these projects, with installation views of each exhibition, along with texts from people who have played key roles in FLAG’s history and interviews with Sarah Douglas, Glenn Fuhrman and Stephanie Roach.

Fuhrman will be in conversation with Lawrence Weiner at the Gagosian Shop on April 16th, between 6 and 7 pm. A book signing will follow.

"Abide is a series of videos and video installations that explore the difficulty of being present and still in times of life changes. These installations overlay HD footage of my mother’s hospital room as she lay dying, with cellphone clips that my teenage daughter shoots. These two types of footage are overlaid using two projectors, creating a physical superimposition where brightness obliterates while darkness reveals. The two single channel works simulate a state where time seems to slow down, yet also drifts past without notice. One traces the baseboard of the house my father finished building just before he died, while the other witnesses the questionable uniformity of time in a hospital room."

Belgian artist Kris Martin dedicated himself to the task of transcribing - by hand - the entirety of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s 1869 novel The Idiot, every day for five months. Martin substitutes his own name for the protagonist Prince Myshkin, who had been exiled at a Swiss sanatorium for the treatment of his epilepsy who returns to Russia to collect his substantial inheritance.

Lee Henderson's epic edit Palliative Care (1985-1992), is featured in the current V-Tape group exhibition ... any resemblance to real persons, dead or alive, is purely coincidental. Curated by shell projects (Maegan Broadhurst and Barbora Racevičiūtė), the show features works that deal with television, mortality, and grief, and also features work by Liz Knox, Eve Tagny, and Stan Douglas.

Palliative Care is a supercut of every reference to death found in the 180 episodes of the NBC sitcom
"The Golden Girls".

The show runs until April 6 at 401 Richmond in Toronto.
