Marinus Boezem | Paper Events

Marinus Boezem
Paper Events
Belgium: Multi-Art Press, 1970
[16] pp., 29.8 x 21.5 cm., softcover in plastic pouch
Edition of 250 signed and numbered copies

If I had a Christmas list for thousand dollar books, this 1970 title by Dutch artist Marinus Boezem would be near the top.

Part-Artist Book, part-Multiple, part-Instructional Score, the entirely blank book comes in a printed plastic pouch which may also later house the remnants that remain. The instructions on the pouch
propose that the readers cut page three with a pair of scissors; wrinkle and throw away page five; cut page seven; tear page nine; soak page eleven in water, hang page thirteen in an open window; and finally to burn the rest of the book.

The title bears an uncanny resemblance to George Maciunas' Flux Paper Events, which would be released several years later. The 1970 reissue of Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit asked readers to burn the book once they had finished reading it.

Paper Events is available from The Archive Is Limited, for € 940, here
