Pop Quiz at the Owens Art Gallery

Pop Quiz was conceived of as a bookwork, many years ago, but first began life as a video, out of financial necessity. It was eventually produced in it's intended form by Paul + Wendy Projects, but continued as a growing video archive - first 15 minutes long, and now over four hours.

The video and the book are both included in an exhibition at the Owens Art Gallery in Sackville, New Brunswick, which opens tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.

The piece includes every question from the lyrics of every pop song in my music collection, about two thousand in total. The work functions as a kind of Dada-esque questionnaire and also as a form or self-portrait. The questions appear briefly on the screen to be pondered, but in the areas where my listening habits and those of the viewers intersect, they may leave with gallery with a melody rattling around their heads in the form of earworm.

The exhibition continues until February 20th. For more information, visit the Owens Art Gallery site, here.
