Maurizio Cattelan | Phaidon monograph

[Maurizio Cattelan]
Maurizio Cattelan
London, UK: Phaidon Press, 2003
212 pp., 15.6 x 13.4 cm., softcover
Edition size unknown

When asked to participate in a monograph for Phaidon's popular Contemporary Artists Series, Cattelan insisted his overview be published at a third the size of his contemporaries. This could be viewed as an act of self-deprecation, but in light of his work is just as likely to be a piss-take, an intervention into and disruption to the series, which had previously been uniform in size. Scale also figures prominently in the artists' sculptural practice, so perhaps the book is viewed as another of his miniatures.

The title features 200 colour illustrations, 40 black and white illustrations and texts by Francesco Bonami, Massimiliano Gioni and Barbara Vanderlinden. Nancy Spector interviews the artist and Cattelan himself contributes writings and the selection of Philip Roth and Marc Etkind, for the Artist's Choice section.

Available from the publisher, here, for $29.95 CDN.

  1. I think this is the second edition. The first edition was published at the conventional scale.
