The Vancouver Art/Book Fair

Another book fair next weekend: The Vancouver Art/Book Fair bills itself as "Canada’s Only International Art Book Fair". It's fourth iteration will take place at the Vancouver Art Gallery from October 17 to 18, 2015.

Organized by Project Space, the fair is free to the public and showcases the work of over 100 publishers and artists through exhibitor booths, hourly talks, performances and artists' projects.

Featured presenters include Allison Collins and Michael Turner of the Mainstreeters: Taking Advantage 1972–1892 (Vancouver), Sara Kaaman and Stina Löfgren, of Girls Like Us (Amsterdam), Jp King of Paper Pusher (Toronto), Lele Saveri of 8-Ball Zines (Brooklyn), Shauba Chang of Waterfall and NOT TODAY (Taipei), Kelvin Soh of LE ROY and DD/MM/YY (Auckland), Erica Wilk of Moniker Press (Vancouver), Ward Heirwegh of Sleeperhold Publications (Antwerp), Members of Zine Club (Rotterdam, Vancouver, Prague, São Paulo), and curator Kegan McFadden (Winnipeg).

"The work is conceived as an effort in two parts: mine and that of the recipient. My thumbprint has been added above the word “me”, leaving space for an additional thumbprint above the work “you. Once the second thumbprint is added to the metal surface, the work is considered complete. This action aligns us, me & you, producer and recipient, as co-conspirators and as partners in crime."

This Risograph book combines Nick Kline's photo-series Boy's Shirts with a text by Winnipeg writer/curator/artist Kegan McFadden. Part autobiography, part fiction, the text employs the technique of the singular pronoun, (the titular “he”) as a purposeful beclouding.
