Humming is 37 minute audio work from 1995, which was published as an edition of 300 CDs by Yvon Lambert in 1997. The disk contains a telephone conversation between the artist and a friend during which only Bismuth's voice was recorded. There is no discernible dialogue, only the non-verbal sounds one punctuates conversation with to indicate listening and attentiveness.
This description of Pierre Bismuth's "Humming" reminds me of Douglas Flieshut's Language Removal Services project (see languageremoval.com). His CD titled "Static Language Sampler v.2.0" from 2001 is required listening for anyone searching for expansive expression outside the limits of rational thought.
