Hands down my favourite contemporary Artist Book publisher is Primary Information. Founded by artist James Hoff, the non-profit press is mandated to "publish out-of-print books that remain vital to ongoing conversations around artistic practice and to publish contemporary books by emerging, mid-career, and established artists."
Now in it’s fifteenth year, the press has reissued significant Artist periodicals (ArtRite, Yeah, Avalanche, Just Another Asshole), Artist’s Records (The Guerrilla Art Action Group, The UJ3RK5, Richard Hamilton and Dieter Roth, Allan Kaprow's How To Make A Happening), Something Else Press anthology reprints (Fantastic Architecture, The Great Bear Pamphlets, An Anthology of Concrete Poetry), NSCAD Press reprints (Michael Snow, Yvonne Rainer), extremely important and hard books like Ursula Block’s Broken Music, etc. etc. etc.
In addition to these excellent facsimile reprints, the press has also collected unpublished and uncollected writings by Carole Schneemann, Tony Conrad, Lee Lozano and others. They have also published some great new works by artists such as Cory Arcangel, Rick Myers, Nora Khan and Steven Warwick.
Forthcoming titles include books by Michael Asher, Dara Birnbaum, DeForrest Brown Jr., Dan Graham, Renee Green, and Flora Yin-Wong.

All this week I will be re-posting earlier long-form entries about PI titles, with a few new ones added in, beginning with Michael Snow's Cover to Cover, tomorrow.
