Catherine Opie grew up in a home that placed great importance on the family photo album, and documentation of loved ones. She remembers her mother constantly taking home videos and snapshots. She was given her first camera at age nine and continued the family tradition.
This deck of playing cards includes images of friends and strangers, as a documentation of queer life in the 90's. Each suit represents a different stereotype. Hearts are images of couples, Clubs are 'jocks', Diamonds are 'femmes' and Spades are 'Butch Dykes'.
