Unique work
A realization of the event score work from Robert Watts: Events, this is one of a number of dresses proposed ("A dress consisting mainly of labels", "A dress consisting mainly of belts", "A dress with several envelopes from which objects may be removed or replaced", etc) and realized (Portrait Dress, 1965).
The dress features feathers encased in clear vinyl.
I always assumed the work was a prototype for an edition, perhaps for Implosions Inc., the company that Watts ran with George Maciunas, or for Fluxus.
Artist Larry Miller took the above photographs and he manages - with his partner Sara Seagull - the Bob Watts estate, where the work remains. Seagull wrote me to say "We both regard that work as totally unique, and have not seen any reference in the Watts Archive to intentions for it to be editioned or created in multiple copies."
