Micah Lexier | One, and Two, and More Than Two
One, and Two, and More Than Two by Micah Lexier opens at The Power Plant tonight. Curated by Director Gaetane Verna, the exhibition is part recent survey and part curatorial project. The show is divided into three sections: One includes works created individually, Two collects pieces made in collaboration with writers, and More Than Two features work by more than a hundred Toronto artists selected and arranged by Lexier.
One includes the classic Self-Portrait as a Wall Text from 1998, coupled with an updated version made specifically for the exhibition. Working As A Drawing collects sketches, drawings and concept plans from the artist's archives. A new video installation entitled This One, That One rounds out the first section.
Two, features Two Equal Texts (1998/2007), an anagram work made with poet Christian Bök that has previously existed as a window text (on the exterior of MKG127 and later Printed Matter in NYC) and as a bookwork, published by Fillip, I Am The Coin (2010), made with novelist Derek McCormack; and 1334 Words for 1334 Students (2008), made with writer Colm Tóibín and the students in Mississauga’s Cawthra Park Secondary School (available at Art Metropole, here, for $8.00).
More Than Two (Let It Make Itself) is a curatorial project that presents thirty vitrines containing over 200 works by 101 artists/duos/collectives. A bookwork documenting the project will be available at the opening.
The exhibition runs until January 5th, 2014. For more information, including a full list of the participating artists, visit the Power Plant site, here.
