The British Cinema 16 DVD features art-house filmmakers such as Peter Greenaway (
Drowning by Numbers, The Cook the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover), Lynne Ramsay (
Ratcatcher, one of my all-time faves, and the recently released
We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Mike Leigh (
Naked, Secrets and Lies, Career Girls), alongside blockbuster filmmakers Ridley Scott (
Bladerunner, Alien, Thelma and Louise) and Christopher Nolan (the
Batman reboots, the over-rated
Inception). It also features a five-minute documentary by photographer Martin Parr and John Smith’s 1976
Girl Chewing Gum, which is one of my favorite artist’s shorts ever.
